OMFG! This morning I read in the newspaper about a guy who got cut in the neck with a skate blade on Sunday and was sent to the hospital, but it didn't hit me until now. I swear it was the scariest thing I have ever seen in my life!!! I saw the video... Oh my god... It went like this:
he was skating into the corner to get the puck but one of his teammates was checked and fell head first. When the other guy went down, his feet flew up in the air and the skate blade sliced right across Zednik's carotid artery. Blood poured out everywhere and he collapsed to the ice before quickly getting up and skating back to the bench. Every medical person in the entire arena rushed back to the lockerroom to help Zednik and he was placed on a stretcher and taken in an ambulance to the Buffalo (NY) General Hospital. He was rushed into surgery and they were able to sew the artery back together. Thank God he's alright. He's currently in the ICU and is listed in stable condition. he video though is shocking. After watching a few to find the best one I was almost crying.
I cannot say how thankful I am thank it was not Kopitar or any of the Kings that this happened to because I would hate to be at a Kings game knowing that Kopi was in the ICU. Zednik's wife is flying to Buffalo to be with him and he is conscious and talking alright. It will be one thing I will never bee able to forget. I don't think anyone will. Link to a good video (good bloody footage near the middle/end): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYue5Git1-A
You can see the blood spurting from his neck out in front of him.
Being helped off the ice
Scraping off the bloody ice.
The faint line that the arrow is pointing to is actually blood flowing out of his neck.
Here you can see the puddle of blood already on the ice and he hasn't even completely fallen down yet.
A coach and a fellow teammate helping him off the ice to the benches and ultimately the lockerroom. Again, he was able to skate himself to the bench but here it looks almost like he is being held up Best wishes go out to Florida Panther's Richard Zednik
